Photographers earn Master Photographer and Master Artist degrees through participation in the International Photographic Competition, where 5-member panels of expert, trained jurors judge entries against 12 criteria of photographic excellence and award a “merit” to works that they determine to be “of exhibition quality” or better. To earn a degree, a photographer or artist must accumulate 13 merits in competition, along with 12 merits through education or service to the industry.
